The Breathe-OK Training Program for Women Veterans

What is “Breathe, It’ll Be OK”? The Breathe-OK training program is mindfulness-based. This means that we will focus on building the ability to pay attention in a very particular way to whatever is happening in the  present moment, including pain and stress, without judging it.

Why participate? By building mindfulness skills, you can become better able to cope with pain, stress, and difficult emotions, and spend time  doing what matters most in your life.  Research studies and comments of people who have been trained in mindfulness have shown that the benefits of training include:

Better coping with chronic pain and stressful life events

  • Less interference of pain and distress in daily activities
  • Higher positive mood and quality of life

When, where, and how long? Breathe-OK will take place in a group/Unit format once a week for 8 weeks at the main Phoenix VA starting in late February. We are going to offer the groups on two different days, your choice, either Mondays 1-3pm or Thursdays, 3-5pm.

How do I find out more and/or sign up? We ask that anyone interested attend an Orientation to learn more about the Breathe-OK training program and ask any questions they might have. You may choose to attend any one of the following Orientations:

Monday, January 25th, 1pm-2:30pm, Amethyst Clinic

Monday, February 1st, 1pm-2:30pm, Amethyst Clinic

Thursday, February 4th, 3-4:30pm, Building 21

Thursday, February 11th, 3-5:30pm, Building 21
