A Tribute to our Founder Brian Mancini
Brian Mancini never wanted to be seen as a wounded soldier. His poem “Do Not Pity Me.” speaks to that. Despite the fact that his body and mind had been ravaged by the events of war he rose above that to do what medics do “help others.” Brian founded Honor House in the hopes that his medical training, skills as a leader and his own struggles could build a program to help Veterans. He accomplished all of that through helping to educate the community about the needs of our Veterans and build programs that directly help them on their journey of transition.
His legacy lies not just in the Veterans he directly touched but in those that he will never meet who’s lives will be saved and changed through the programs he helped to start. Brian was a deeply spiritual man and always looked at the Physical, Emotional and Spiritual needs as he developed the Honor House programs. He often said that “Healing was the new Mission.” We the Board and those who volunteer and support Honor House are dedicated to the continuation and growth of the amazing work that he started.
Brian’s vision was to someday have a campus of healing for Veterans that Phoenix would not be seen as the epicenter of the crisis for our Veterans but as the epicenter of the solution. That programs like Honor House would be templated across the nation. Working together we can make Brian’s vision a reality and create an ongoing legacy for this man who never wanted to be called a hero but has become one in every sense of the word.
